Literacy

An understanding of fiction genre, narrative writing, biography and autobiography and the power of imagery.

 

 

Numeracy

A range of areas from the numeracy strategy, starting with place value.

 

Science

Forces and Micro-organisms.

 

ICT

Internet activities and using controlling devices.

 

 

RE

Who brought Christianity to Britain ? What does it mean to be a Hindu? Where can we find out about the birth of Jesus?

 

 

Art /DT

Using different media to record different landscapes. To design and make models of shelters.

 

 

Music

To develop an understanding of how musical structures are used in songs.

 

 

 PE/GAMES

Gymnastis, dance and invasion games.

Please ensure correct kit is in school on these days.

 

             History

 

Britain Since 1930.

 

             French

 

To develop an understanding of spoken and written language

 

             PSHCE

 

New beginnings, bullying, getting on and falling out and safety in the home.

 

Homework

This will be given out most days and should be returned to school by

the next day.

 

Spellings

These will be given out on Mondays to be learnt for the following week.

  

Visits

26th September – Junior Citizen

 

17th, 19th and 21st November class visits to Wisley.

25th and 26th November – Imperial War Museum .

Curriculum

 

This is some of the work to be covered in Year 3 this term.

Literacy

We are looking at stories with familiar settings, myths and legends, poetry and report writing this term.

 

Numeracy

We will be following the National Curriculum and focusing on the four calculations as well as learning the 2,3,4,5 & 10 times tables.

Geography

We will be learning about the local area and ‘Where in the world is Barnaby Bear?’ We will be going for a local area walk on 26/11.

History

 

In History we will be learning about the Romans. We are having a Roman Day on 23/10 which will include a drama group.

Science

This term we will be learning about teeth & eating and materials.

ICT

We will be learning about e-mail and combining text and graphics.

 

RE

This term we will be learning about Jesus and Harvest. On 3/12 we will have an RE day about why we give presents at Christmas.

 

Art/DT

In art we will be looking at changing places and in DT we will be making moving monsters. There will be an Art Walk in Staines this term –

 

3C on 30/9 & 3R on 2/10

 

Music

The children will be exploring descriptive sounds this term.

 

French

 

In French the children will be learning ‘All about me’.

 PE

This term we will be doing gymnastics, dance and invasion games.

3C – PE on Tuesday, Games on Friday

 

3R – PE on Monday, Games on Friday

 

Please ensure correct kit is in school on these days.

Homework

There will be two pieces of homework each week, literacy, maths or topic based.

 

Spellings

These will be given out on Mondays to be learnt for a test on Friday.

Uniform

 

It would be very useful if your child’s name and class can be written in all their uniform.
