About Us

Head Teacher's Letter
At Spelthorne Junior School it is our aim to provide a broad based education, which is offered in a pleasant and caring environment. We strive to enable the children to progress through their time here in a relaxed, happy way which certainly is the situation for them to flourish.
It is also important that we consider the development of the child as a whole, balancing academic development with the aquisition of good manners, respect for others and a general feeling of well-being.

The school has had three excellent OFSTED inspections, has "Investors in people" accreditation, has won an achievement award from the government and has reached the standard for Healthy School Award.

This web site gives you an overview of our school but should you wish to discover more do not hesitate to contact us and arrange a visit.

Absences / Illness

At Spelthorne Junior School your child’s education is of the highest importance to us. Children should be encouraged to be aware of the importance of education and their schoolwork. We believe regular attendance is key to this, therefore absence is carefully noted.

If your child is ill please phone the office before 9 am that day so your child’s absence can be authorised. Unauthorised absences are recorded and published in your child’s report.

Government guidelines state that taking children out of school to go on holiday during term time is purely at the Head’s discretion. A Holiday Request form must be approved 1 month in advance by the Head teacher for planned family holidays during term time. Our Pupil Attendance & Absence Policy is available on request in school.

School meals

Lunches are cooked on the school premises by a contracted catering company which offers a balanced and varied diet. As school meals are paid for on a weekly basis the school office needs 1 weeks advanced notice, in writing, to change from school prepared dinners to packed lunches. If you prefer your child to have a home provided packed lunch, it should be brought to school in a suitable container, clearly marked with the child's name.

Packed lunches are eaten in your child's classroom except for Yr3 who eat in the Hall. Free meals are available to the children of parents on Family Income Support and forms can be obtained from the school office.
